Quick Start Demo

To aid in the development of Sentrius™ based IoT solutions and help evaluate both the Sentrius BT510 and the Sentrius IG60-BL654, Laird Connectivity developed Bluegrass; a demonstration web application enabled by Amazon Web Services (AWS), that provides users access to real-time data, as well as remote configuration capabilities. This web app demonstrates how Sentrius based hardware integrates with AWS services to make performant, scalable, IoT solutions. This name Bluegrass is a combination of Greengrass (an AWS service for IoT edge devices) and top color of choice for Laird Connectivityproducts: Blue.

This guide will cover how to connect the IG60-BL654 to the Bluegrass.


In order to set up your IG60-BL654 + BT510 IoT Starter Kit for the demonstration, you'll need the following, included in your IG60 development kit:

  • Sentrius™ IG60-BL654 Greengrass Build
  • 3x dipole antennas (comes with IG60-BL654)
  • AC Power supply (comes with IG60-BL654)
  • Mobile device capable of running Sentrius Connect app
  • BT510

Mobile App

In addition, you'll need to download the Sentrius Connect application for your mobile device (available for iOS and Android).

Open Ports

For AWS IoT Greengrass to connect to AWS, you’ll need make sure the following ports are open for outgoing connections:

  • 443
  • 8443 (outbound, HTTPS)
  • 8883 (outbound, MQTT)

If your PC is on the same network as the IG60-BL654, you can check if these ports are open by visiting the following links. If the page loads, the port is open! If the page hangs or fails to load, you’ll need to talk to your IT department about opening these ports.
